Who We Are

Oyster Bay Dog is a group of dog-owning users of Oyster Bay Regional Shoreline, one of the East Bay Regional Parks. We and our dogs routinely interact during walks in this park, and we are concerned with the maintenance of the park as a DOG PARK, in the face of EBRPD's stated plans for this area.

As a one-time landfill, we believe this area is ideal for our purposes. Uses of existing picnic areas in the currently developed areas are infrequent. Most dog owners who use the park for off-leash exercise and recreation are responsible folks, who control their dogs, clean up after them, and obey the rules regarding when and where dogs must be on leash.

We have been told by Mike Anderson, of EBRPD, that plans for this park include filling and grading - to seal the landfill and aid drainage - as well as landscaping and further development. The "further development" will include restriction of off-leash activities to a small fenced area (originally said to be about seven acres), eliminating the large, open, semi-wild area we and our dogs have traditionally enjoyed.

The map below shows the ultimate plan (termed "phase 2") for this park. Nowhere on it is there a marked dog area, but we have been told by Mr. Anderson that the dog area will be next to the labeled parking lot off the planned Davis Street entrance.
